About one year ago we decided to replace the heating system in the Village Hall. For many years we had used a gas-fired warm air system. This had always worked well but was becoming ever more costly, and our utilities bill was by far the greatest overhead in running the establishment. After investigation we decided to become more ecological and install solar panels on the Village Hall, together with a Tesla Powerwall and a new warm air system — provided we could raise the funds.
We were able to achieve this with a very generous grant from the Colton Parish Lands Trust, whose purpose is to support projects for the benefit of parishioners, and on that basis we were able to proceed.
We have now had the new system in place for over a year and it has been a remarkable success. With the exception of the gas cooker in the kitchen, we have totally eliminated our usage of gas and more than halved our electricity from the grid. In fact, we feed into the grid our excess generated during daylight hours. It has been a win-win in all respects from day one.

On 1st March 2025 the 10th in the series of our regular wine tasting evenings took place in the Village Hall. On each occasion we choose a different theme for the evening with a relevant selection of wines and matching food. A professional from the wine trade is invited to host the evening. This time the chosen theme was Grove Estates Vineyards whose owners, Rob and Liz Grove gave a presentation on their wines all of which are produced from the grapes grown in their vineyard near Eccleshall. They explained how they started and developed the business from a standing start, and the processes involved in producing their still and sparkling wines. Platters of cold meats and cheeses were provided in sufficient quantity to ensure no one went home hungry. We also wanted to ensure that no one was thirsty at the end of the evening. All 48 bottles provided for the tasting were emptied by the 46 participants. At £25 per head, It proved to be yet another very happy evening!
One of the tangible measures of success is the noise level. At each of the tastings we have always generated such a wall of sound that you can actually feel it. For logistical reasons we limit the attendance to 50 but it is probable, that if we allowed more drinkers to participate, the fabric of the building might be damaged by our own version of breaking the sound barrier. By popular demand, the next event is already in the planning stage.

“It is an excellent hall with a pleasant outlook with a field to the rear and good parking. This is a great facility and probably the best facility of its type for miles around - its certainly the best we have used”.
We hold our monthly meetings in the Village Hall, and make the most of its great facilities. There is even a stage when required. The hall is kept clean and well maintained, health and safety management is obvious and WI-FI is available. There is plenty of car parking and outdoor lighting at the front and rear.
Thank you so much for the use of the hall. It was a fantastic space and the party was a big hit!
